Aspen Properties®
The industry standard for thermophysical properties modeling throughout the product and process lifecycle
Aspen Properties provides state-of-the-art physical property methods, models, algorithms, and data that enables engineers and chemists to easily perform engineering calculations based on rigorous and proven thermophysical property models and data. It also makes possible the capture and deployment of consistent physical property data and knowledge across the enterprise. Aspen Properties is a core element of AspenTech's aspenONE® Engineering applications.
Features
Aspen Properties consists of five key features required to support physical properties calculations across an enterprise:
- The Aspen Properties Desktop User Interface. Aspen Properties provides a rigorous, consistent thermophysical property calculation engine and a user-friendly interface that includes:

- Extensive pure component and binary parameter databanks
- Direct access to the National Institute of Standard and Technology NIST Source Database containing over 4 million points of experimental property data for over 24,000 pure components and 30,000 binary systems. The experimental data encompasses pure component, mixture property, and phase-equilibrium data.
- The NIST Thermo Data Engine (TDE) system for evaluating properties using experimental data from the NIST Source Database and estimations from thermodynamically consistent methods
- Comprehensive library of thermophysical and transport property models
- Built-in parameter estimation and data regression capabilities
- Extendable to user property models and data
- Internet link to DETHERM® data
- Mathematical algorithms for phase equilibrium calculations (VLE, LLE, VLLE, and salt precipitation)
- Analysis tools for property and phase equilibrium calculations
- Proven results for highly non-ideal chemicals, solvents, electrolytes, and solids
- Interface with third-party applications through CAPE-OPEN COM thermodynamic, Microsoft automation, and FORTRAN interfaces
- The Microsoft Excel® Calculator Add-In. This provides access to rigorous and proven Aspen Properties models and data within Excel through simple function calls. It facilitates the reuse and deployment of physical property knowledge throughout the enterprise. A wide range of thermophysical and transport properties and phase-equilibrium calculations are supported, including:
- Thermophysical and Transport Properties including fugacity coefficients, activity coefficients, molar enthalpy, molar entropy, molar volume, viscosity, thermal conductivity, etc.
- Phase-equilibrium Calculations including bubble point, dew point, temperature-pressure flash, temperature-vapor fraction flash, pressure-vapor fraction flash, temperature-enthalpy flash, pressure-enthalpy flash and salt precipitation
- Aspen Solubility Modeler. A data regression and analysis tool that enables users to use experimental data to inform their analyses of various solubility questions. Aspen Solubility Modeler provides a unique and powerful molecular thermodynamic foundation for physical property modeling and prediction of new pharmaceutical compounds across varied settings and myriad complexities.
- Aspen Properties Mobile. This application provides access to rigorous physical property calculations and data when and where you need it – at a customer site, in a conference room, from home, on the road – anywhere you can remotely access your corporate network.
Benefits
Aspen Properties enables all chemists, engineers, and technologists in the enterprise to access the industry standard for thermophysical property calculations. It helps to ensure that all engineering applications use the same rigorous and proven thermophysical property models and data, thus ensuring consistent and reliable results throughout the product and process lifecycle.
